CNC machining tolerances

2025-07-16 Visits:

Let's take a look at CNC machining tolerances together.

We provide different levels of accuracy based on your design requirements.Depending on the function and use of our product parts, the required machining accuracy is different, and the selected machining form and processing technology are also different. The following table shows the accuracy range and standard tolerance level that can be achieved by various machining methods.

 1. The general turning processing accuracy is IT8 to IT7, with surface roughness Rα ranging from 1.6μm to 0.8μm. Specifically: for rough turning, the processing accuracy can only reach IT11, and the surface roughness is Rα20, which is 10μm. For semi-fine and fine turning, the processing accuracy can reach IT10 to IT7, with surface roughness Rα10, which is 0.16μm. High precision turning can achieve processing accuracy of IT7 to IT5, and surface roughness Rα0.04, which is 0.01μm, also known as "mirror turning." 2. Grinding is generally used for semi-fine and fine machining, mainly for surface finish processing, with processing accuracy reaching IT8 to IT5 or even higher, and surface roughness Rα1.25, which is 0.16μm. Precision grinding: surface roughness is Rα0.16 to 0.04μm. Ultra-precision grinding: surface roughness is Rα0.04 to 0.01μm. Mirror grinding: surface roughness can reach below Rα0.01μm.3. Boring is commonly used in the transition from semi-rough to fine processing. The boring accuracy for steel materials generally reaches IT9 to IT7, with surface roughness Rα ranging from 2.5 to 0.16μm. Precision boring can achieve processing accuracy of IT7 to IT6, with surface roughness Rα ranging from 0.63 to 0.08μm.4. The milling processing accuracy is generally IT8 to IT7, with surface roughness Rα6.3, which is 1.6μm. Specifically: for rough milling, processing accuracy is IT11 to IT13, with surface roughness Rα5, which is 20μm. For semi-fine milling, processing accuracy is IT8 to IT11, with surface roughness Rα2.5, which is 10μm. Fine milling: processing accuracy is IT6 to IT8, with surface roughness Rα0.63, which is 5μm.
