Polyoxymethylene (POM) is a high-performance engineering plastic with the following characteristics:
一、Excellent Mechanical Properties
High strength and rigidity, with a tensile strength reaching approximately 70 MPa. Its specific strength and specific rigidity are close to those of metals, enabling it to withstand large loads.
Outstanding fatigue and creep resistance, making it suitable for components subjected to long-term alternating loads, such as gears and bearings.
Low coefficient of friction and excellent self-lubricating properties, maintaining good operational performance without additional lubricants. It has a high limiting PV value and wear resistance superior to most engineering plastics.
Copolymer POM exhibits even better wear resistance in humid environments.
二、Stable Thermal Properties
High heat distortion temperature; ordinary POM is 100-110℃, and with fiber reinforcement, it can reach approximately 160℃, allowing for long-term use within a temperature range of -40℃ to 100℃.
Homopolymer POM has slightly higher short-term heat resistance than copolymer POM, but copolymer POM has superior long-term heat aging resistance.
三、It exhibits good chemical stability.
It is resistant to organic solvents, oils, weak acids and alkalis, and weak oxidizing agents; it is stable to chemical media such as hydrocarbons, alcohols, and aldehydes.
However, it is not resistant to strong acids, strong alkalis, phenols, and organohalides; it is easily degraded upon prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light or high temperatures.
